USA vs. Brazil lineups, starting 11, team news: Pulisic, Vinicius Jr. start in Copa America warmup match | Sporting News (2024)

The United States men's national team will look to bounce back from their disappointing showing over the weekend when they face another CONMEBOL powerhouse in Brazil on Wednesday, with the Allstate Continental Clásico serving as both nations' final tune-up friendly before Copa América 2024.

There will certainly be pressure on Gregg Berhalter's side to perform at the tournament in front of their home fans, but their preparation isn't going as planned.

The US were abysmal at both ends of the pitch in their 5-1 loss to FIFA No. 11-ranked Colombia on Saturday. And while Berhalter's will want his side to respond strongly in their next game, they are up against five-time world champions Brazil.

After ending 2023 in miserable fashion with three straight losses in their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, Brazil have since made an unbeaten start to 2024 under new head coach Dorival Junior, who has picked up two wins and one draw from his opening three games in charge.

They will come into this contest off the back of winning a five-goal thriller 3-2 against Mexico at Kyle Field in Texas last Saturday, with 17-year-old attacking sensation Endrick once against strealing the headlines with a stoppage time winner.

USA vs. Brazil predicted lineups, starting 11, team news

A large contingent of USMNT regulars who started against Colombia will see the field again here as head coach Gregg Berhalter looks to get his players in sync. Berhalter indicated before the Colombia match that there would likely be very few changes between that game's lineup and this one, and that's the case, with just two alterations.

Joe Scallydid well against Colombia in his chance to earn the right-back spot behind the injured Sergino Dest, and Berhalter sticks with him rather than giveShaq Mooreor Tim Weaha chance to impress. There's no room forHaji Wrightto get a chance from the off, as it would require either moving or sittingChristian Pulisicsince Wright is a natural left winger.Ricardo Pepigets a chance up front, withFolarin Balogundropping out.

Midfield starTyler Adamsis only fit for a substitute role, Berhalter confirmed in his pre-match press conference, whileJosh Sargentwill not participate due to a foot injury but is "progressing well."

USA starting lineup (4-3-3):1. Turner (GK) — 22. Scally, 3. Richards, 13. Ream, 5. A. Robinson — 8. McKennie, 7. Reyna, 6. Musah — 21. Weah, 9. Pepi, 10. Pulisic.

Injured:Sergino Dest (ACL tear), Josh Sargent (foot)

Brazil head coach Dorival Junior deployed a lineup of mostly second-choice players against Mexico, so sure enough, many of the regular starters to come into the XI for this game as the tournament draws closer.

That includes star forwardVinicius Jr. along with a host of other players who sat to begin the Mexico game, as didBruno Guimaraes,Lucas Paqueta, andRaphinha, among others.Endrickhas done more than enough to earn his first career international start at the striker position after scoring in three straight games off the bench, but he remains on the outside looking in for now, withRodrygogetting the nod up front.

As has been the case for a number of years, Brazil's weakest position is full-back. The versatileDanilocan play anywhere, but the only natural full-backs on the roster are Girona youngsterYan Couto, Porto'sWendell, andAtletico Minero captainGuilherme Aranawho hold a combined 13 international caps between the three.Gabrielhas been left on the bench for the second straight match, with 20-year-oldLucas Beraldogiven a start.

Brazil starting lineup (4-3-3):1. Alisson (GK) — 2. Danilo, 4. Marquinhos, 17. Beraldo, 6. Wendell — 8. Paqueta, 15. Gomes, 5. Guimaraes — 7. Vinicius Jr, 10. Rodrygo, 11. Raphinha.
