3rd Person POV:

"Okay." The Officer pulled his voice recorder out, setting it down on the left side of his journal where he'd write. "Let's start from the beginning, yeah?"

Phoebe sighed as she set her hands calmly on the table. "Do I get a lawyer?" She was provided a water bottle and a small snack. They intended to keep her there for a while. Even if she'd already been there for over an hour.

"Yes, if you cannot afford one, one will be provided to you by the state of law." Officer Kenny nodded in confirmation. A small click of his pen and Phoebe sat up straight, her hands cuffed to the table. "Now, Phoebe, tell me why you killed Darrian."

-

The light practically blinded Y/N as she sat down nervously across from the captain of the police force. He gave off a gentle aura, passing her a water bottle and crackers, allowing her to keep her phone.

"Now, Y/N, before we begin I need you to be aware of something." He laid down the law firmly yet softly on the 17-year-old girl who furrowed her brows at him. "You do know that Phoebe will be tried for murder, correct?"

"Yes." Her voice was barely just above a whisper.

"Okay, and I would really appreciate your cooperation today. If you know anything about what happened, that'd be great." The sheriff, Lensing, leaned back with his coffee in his hand. "Whenever you're ready."

Y/N let out a breath, remembering Phoebe's words from earlier. "Well..."

Y/N and Phoebe had been discreetly dating in private. Why, you may ask? Well, it's a simple yet complicated answer.

Y/N was dating a toxic man who was abusing her to scare her into staying with him. That man went by the name of Darrian Starling. He was an 18-year-old high school dropout who often dealed drugs to the locals to make quick bank.

Now, Y/N met him back before he dropped out of high school. Ever since his football career went downhill, he went feral. Y/N never thought he'd ever put his hands on her... or abuse her in every way possible.

When it first started, Y/N immediately confused into her best friend, Phoebe Atwell. But, as things for worse, the more time she spent with Phoebe. The latter needing to patch her up and help cover the bruises.

Phoebe hated sitting there knowing that Y/N was going through all this. When they started dating in secret, she felt like she was on top of the world without anyone else needing to know.

Y/N made her feel better about herself.

One day - her final straw was drawn when Y/N came to her house, sobbing uncontrollably with a dark, red hand print wrapped completely around her neck. It was imprinted for many days on end and there was a lot of ice that was in use by the girl.

Phoebe couldn't take it anymore.

"What did she do after finding out about the strangulation?" Lensing asked, co*cking his head curiously at Y/N who fiddled with her fingers.

"Uh, she-" Y/N inhaled deeply, sinking into the metal chair. "She stayed with me all night, or at least I thought all night. I woke up at 11 pm and she wasn't home with me. By 1 am, I got a call from her."

"And what was the call about?"

Y/N swallowed. "Darrian."

In the darkest shadows of the night, Phoebe moved quick like a cat and as quiet as a mouse. Her eyes were trained on every move that Darrian made. He walked from his car, to his apartment. Then back to his car for his keys, and to his apartment once more to get inside.

She slithered out from her hiding spot behind the thick, oak tree. Her breath was shallow and steady, almost nonexistent. Phoebe wasn't thinking straight - she couldn't when she remembered all the pain Y/N endured.

"So, your pain and uh fights with him was her motive for killing him?" Lensing pushed ever so slightly.

Y/N nodded, crossing her arms with a now stoic look on her face. "Yes. Phoebe once told me that she'd kill anyone for me, no questions asked, if they ever hurt me as bad as he did." She glanced off to the side. "She kept her word."

It was easy getting in Darrian's house. To Phoebe, the man was a complete idiot. She lifted the open bathroom window had rolled inside, landing on her hands and feet with a soft thud on the rug.

She stood with a determine look. No going back now. I'm doing this for Y/N. She would think nonstop to herself as she opened the bathroom door.

From there, Darrian sat on his recliner with a beer in his hand, watching the recorded football games he had on his tv. Phoebe slowly snuck out, sneaking up from behind him. She looked around for a moment before grabbing a glass vase from the kitchen counter.

Without hesitation or a second though, she slammed it over his head. Darrian immediately let out a loud scream where Phoebe had to jump in and get on top of him, slamming her hand over his mouth to quiet him down.

"Shut the f*ck up." She growled as she grabbed the beer bottle, slamming it across his forehead. Blood began gushing from his head.

"S-stop..." He whimpered in a weak tone, his eyes swelling immediately, eyesight blurred and his body slipping in and out of consciousness.

"This is for f*cking up my girlfriend. You won't ever, and I mean ever, f*cking put your hands on her like that again." Phoebe slightly stood up, yanking on his collar as she slammed his back onto the ground. "I'm gonna f*cking kill too for what you did and what you've been doing for the past year and a half!"

Little by little, hit after hit... Darrian's whimpers and cries died down to an eerie silence. Nothing but Phoebe's thoughts and the tv were running while through the room. She looked at the bloody mess she made and it seemed like reality kicked in.

"You said she called you?" Lensing quickly wrote down. Y/N nodded.

"She immediately called me, she was scared sh*tless, but it wasn't like she regretted anything she did."

"f*ck, what do I do, baby? I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Am I supposed to leave him there?" Phoebe rambled on and on with a panicked, distressed tone.

Y/N listened anxiously yet intently on the other line. She nervously bit on her nails, trying to keep her tears withdrawn back. "Everything is okay, baby. Just- just please come home, we'll work it out."

"And did you come over?"

"I did." Phoebe mumbled, staring emotionlessly down at her hands. "I went over and she just held me, I confessed everything to her. I had nothing to hide from Y/N." Kenny looked at her. "I never had a single reason to lie to my girl."

"You know I'd do anything for you, right?" Phoebe grasped Y/N's shoulders, looking her crazily in the eyes. Y/N kept her cool, putting a small smile on as she cradled her girlfriend's head in her arms.

"I know you would." She sighed and kissed her cheek. "This needs to stay between us for now."

"And you did. Until we found his body a week later." Lensing informed Y/N with a matter-of-fact tone in his voice. "In a way, you would be just as guilty as Phoebe. Sure, you weren't physically there, but you kept it hidden."

"Yeah... to protect my girlfriend." Y/N snapped slightly.

"And that's a crime. To cover up a homicide." Lensing stated. "Phoebe is looking at a life sentence in prison, maybe less with a bail. Which, by the way, is set to $50,000."

Y/N sighed deeply, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Either way she doesn't care." She immediately whispered, catching Lensing's attention. "She doesn't regret a single thing she did. She ended the guy's life who tortured me and brutally abused me in ways you can't imagine or even fathom." She stood up confidently. "You think you're scaring her with this sentence? Or me? No... because she'd do it all again if another person were to do it."
