Lueders Water System Improvements Jones County, Texas

The City of Lueders, TX is proposing to make improvements to its water system in Jones County, TX. The project includes construction of an approximately 900 m long waterline south of town running from Cox Street to CR207/204. The pipeline bores under the Clear Fork of the Brazos River 450 m upstream from the Lake Penick dam. Jacob & Martin, LTD, which is designing the pipeline route, contracted with AR Consultants, Inc. to conduct a pedestrian survey of the route. The purpose of this investigation was to determine if significant cultural resources were present in the proposed project area. Site 41JS136 (formerly 41JS75), is a surficial scatter of prehistoric artifacts eroding out of the terrace overlooking the Clear Fork and site 41JS135 is the remains of a historic lake and associated features. This document constitutes the final report of work done by Prewitt and Associates, Inc. (PAI), under a contract from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to provide archeological services in four TxDOT districts—Abilene, Brownwood, Fort Worth, and Waco. Under this contract, PAI completed Impact Evaluations and Surveys to assist TxDOT in meeting the requirements of their Memorandum of Understanding with the Texas Historical Commission and a Programmatic Agreement between the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the Federal Highway Administration, the Texas Historical Commission, and TxDOT. The contract began on 26 September 2003. A total of 77 projects were conducted. The 77 projects consisted of 25 Impact Evaluations and 52 Surveys. TMO has brought together several data sets into our first report on metropolitan Texas, People, Land, and Water: Stories of Metropolitan Growth. In People, we analyze socio-demographic trends on diversity, education, poverty, and more, revealing several trends about the people of metropolitan Texas. In Land, the physical expansion of metros is analyzed against population growth, density, and imperviousness, finding that growth is both more efficient and increasingly intense. In Water, consumption patterns are examined by source and end-use, finding decreasing water use per capita; however, increasing population growth will outpace efficiency improvements.

The Dallas Floodway Extension project is designed to provide flood damage reduction and environmental restoration within the Trinity River flood plain between the Corinth Street Viaduct and Loop 12. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, contracted with Geo-Marine, Inc., to conduct an archeological assessment of the proposed Wetland Cell D. The archeological assessment was to identify any potential archeological sites that may be eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places and to provide an assessment of the potential for buried landforms in the project area that may have intact archeological resources present. The geoarcheological investigations, involving the excavation of 10 backhoe trenches and the review of previous data collected within the Upper Trinity River drainage, revealed that the flood plain sediments of the Trinity River are quite variable, both horizontally and vertically. A précis is presented of the status of the water resources of Texas at the turn of the century, both 1900 and 2000. The purpose is to assess the similarities maintained, and the changes wrought in water problems and their management over the intervening century. Then, as now, the state exhibits a wide range of hydroclimatology, the greatest of any of the contiguous states. Runoff derives mainly from deep convection, largely associated with equinoctial midlatitude storms and landfalling tropical depressions, so the resulting streamflow is flashy. There is a near balance between rainfall and evapotranspiration, making their difference—the water source for both runoff and recharge—susceptible to slight variations in either. These two facts, instability of and flashiness in runoff and recharge, together comprise the fundamental problem of Texas water supply.
